Once - Morris Gleitzman
A beautiful lyrical story of a naive ten year old Jewish boy caught up in the tragedies of the holocaust. He has been placed in an orphanage by his parents for protection from the Nazis. He escapes from this orphanage to search for his parents and goes on a journey of self discovery.

Recommended for younger readers

Once By Morris Gleitzman

This is a book about a boy and his journey to find his parents. The boy's name is Felix. Felix is the son of Jewish parents. The Germans are under Hitler's control and are rounding up Jews to send to Death Camps. The story begins in an orphanage in Poland where Felix has lived for three years and eight months. They said they would come back for him when they had got over their financial problems. One night at dinner when Felix is collecting his bowl from Mother Minka, he sees something floating in his bowl that could mean savior from the orphanage! There then begins a perilous journey to find his parents. It is an amazingly powerful and tense recount of what people would have felt and experienced when the Nazis were in power. I found this book very moving. The age of the reader would be between 9 and 14.

Once by Morris Gleitzman is a great and moving spectacle. The story takes place in Europe about a boy named Felix. He is jewish and in grave danger, because the Nazis are after all the Jews everywhere. He has to flee from his orphnage (where his parents dumped him) and find his parents (even though they abandoned him in an orphanage).

The story is told in a very sweet and innocent way, in the eyes of Felix. Even when he is shot at he thinks its an accident.

This book is about a boy named Felix who has lived in an orphanage for 3 years and 8 months. Felix finds a whole carrot in his soup one night and he thinks its a sign from his parents that they are coming to get him from the orphanage. The story goes on and Felix's parents don't come so he leaves the orphanage and looks for them aroung Poland. Along the way the face Nazi who are in control of Poland. He also meets new friends along the way like Zelda who help him.

This story is adventreous and could have happened to anyone in 1942. This story is fro people who like adventure and a bit of sadness.

Onceis about a jewish boy who is hidden away in a catholic orphanage during the war.

Felix leaves the orphanage to search for hisparents. he ends up in a walled ghetto, hiding with other children, and barney, a jewish dentist who helps the orphans. when the children are stuffed onto a train heading for a concentration camp, 3 of the children try and escape. but what happensnext??

It is a great book, sad, but worth reading. It is simply written, but gives you extra understanding about the holocaust.

There can be no doubt that Once is a very sad and depressing story. The thing that really hit home for me was the fact that it is all real and it truley happened. The holocaust is a dark horrible dark void in the history humanity. I think it is critical that everyone hears about it and attempts to grasp the gravity of it so that nothing as terrible ever happens again.

Though the story of Once is not real. All the terrible things in the book would have happenedin situations during the Holocaust. It is a horrible thing and it has scarred so many people. Everyone needs to know about the horrors of this war so it never will happen again
