Chasing Charlie Duskin - Cath Crowley
An uplifting story of Charlie Duskin's journey to happiness and love. It will appeal to readers who like to read about someone overcoming life's many difficulties.

Recommended for older readers

Comments:
Charlie is a lonely girl who goes to stay with her grandparents in a small inland town every summer. This year, though, everything is different because of the recent death of her beloved grandmother.

Rose needs a way to get a contact in the city so her mother will allow her to go away to school, and the wierd Charlie girl that comes every summer seems like a good target. Despite having spent the last nine years ignoring Charlie, she takes her under her wing, under the guise of true friendship.

Charlie's unlikely friendship with Rose and Rose's two friends Dave and Luke make for an interesting story, particularly with the inclusion of many revelations about Charlie's past and her need to sing.

I thought this was a touching book and enjoyed reading it, although maybe it's not quite got enough to win the Book Award. Good luck to it though, and I look forward to more of Cath Crowley's novels.

i really loved this book all the detail that is put inmakes it really realistic. The main character Charlie is a loner and doesn't have many friends and the description put into this book describes what many children all over the country are suffering having no friends to talk to and being left out of evrything that goes on in the school. i relly loved this book because it seemed as if it was completely real. I would really recommend this book
to any teenage girl

The novel “Chasing Charlie Duskin” comes under the genre of realistic teenage fiction where the characters behave in realistic and believable ways.

A social outcast, Charlie Duskin drives out to her grandparents place in the country with her Dad. Along the way Charlie is comforted by the voices of her dead mother and grandmother, who urge her to do things that she would normally have run from. Charlie has no friends and is constantly in touch with her musical side. Rose, a daring and outgoing girl with her two best friends Dave and Luke make up a trio and the beginnings of a story. When Rose is accepted into a school in the city, Charlie all of a sudden goes from being Charlie “Dorkin” to a potential friend with something to offer. The story line follows Rose, Luke and Dave’s journey as they discover their feelings when faced with a difficult problem involving Charlie.

This book did little to inspire my imagination and I struggled to find it interesting. The characters did not developed throughout the story and I felt that the writer didn’t allow the audience to experience much of the characters lives. Cath Crowley’s writing style glanced off the top of each individual and I couldn’t form enough of an attachment to these people to care what happened to them.
